Signs Your Wet Seal Is Leaking

If you’re noticing wet patches on your property’s flooring or on the outside walls of a wet area like a bathroom it could be due to your wet seal leaking. Wet sealing is a vital component of your plumbing as it prevents water from penetrating through surfaces. Wet areas like bathrooms, laundries and basements must be as waterproof as possible. Find out if you have a leaking wet seal and what to do about it.

Sealed with A Wet Seal

A wet seal is essentially a rubber like membrane that is applied to a structure like a shower, walls and floors to stop water penetrating through. Sealing it from water. Usually, a water proofer or tiler applies several coats of the sealant to make it to work properly. This process is also commonly known as water proofing. Properties including your home, commercial offices and industrial spaces all contain wet sealing in structures like toilets, laundries and kitchens. To make sure your wet seal at your property is working as it should, hire a trusted plumber to check.

Signs That Your Wet Seal Is Leaking

The following signs are strong indicators that your wet seal is leaking:

  • Wet carpet patches
  • Water on the outside walls of a bathroom or wet area like laundry or basement
  • Visible water around pipework from the under loft of car parks (for apartments above)
  • Toilet, bathroom and shower leaks
  • Missing grout in the shower seal
  • Cracked tiles in the bathroom
  • Welling skirting boards, dampness, or mould build up
  • Peeling paint (on your ceiling, bathroom or outside wall)
  • Damp musty smell (wet carpet and wallpaper)
  • Mouldy cupboards, ceilings and walls
  • Stained timber under the house or subfloor

Don’t Ignore the Warning Signs

It’s easy to ignore the warning signs when your busy and when damage doesn’t seem to be that big of an issue. However, what can start off as a small water leak can escalate into a huge plumbing problem costing you hundreds of dollars. Not to mention many insurance policies won’t cover damage that is deemed ‘preventable’. Water sealing your property should be top priority. A plumber will be able to diagnose this issue to organise repairs with a tiler or wet sealer.

Make sure that you are provided with wet sealing certificates if you have had renovation work done by tradespeople. This ensures credibility and quality workmanship.
