Hydro Jet Drain Cleaning

Hydro Jet drain cleaning is one of the most effective, efficient, and environmentally sound methods for restoring flow to blocked sewers and stormwater pipes. Not only does Hydro Jet cleaning deliver a speedy fix saving you money, but it also mitigates the blockages from reforming.

Blocked Stormwater Drains

If a sewer pipe becomes backed-up or blocked, we can see it and we can smell it. Not only are the symptoms pretty obvious, but our frequent use of taps and toilets ensures that we will discover the issue pretty quickly.

Blocked stormwater pipes, however, can go unnoticed. More frequently, the early signs of stormwater blockages are observed but often dismissed. Normally it’s not until a major rain event, when we experience flooding or roof gutters overflowing, that we realise there’s an issue that requires action. Often we find out from our neighbours, as the water from our property floods into theirs.

Unchecked blocked stormwater pipes can cause major damage to your property. Stormwater pipes are designed to channel water away from structures and foundations. When they’re blocked, stormwater invariably collects at locations critical to structural integrity. The cost of repairing the ensuing damage can be heartbreaking.

A Hydro Jet service unblocks stormwater drains quickly, with limited mess and fuss. Notably, the clean is so thorough that further blockages are prevented.

A Hydro Jet clean is a wise addition to a regular pipe maintenance routine. Cleaning your stormwater pipes before blockages occur can save you a world of hurt and a wallet full of money. A Hydro Jet service can also help identify serious issues such as pipe breaks, fractures, and tree root ingress in subterranean pipes.

Prevention using Hydro Jet cleaning is always better than the cure. However, when it comes to a cure, there’s nothing better than Hydro Jet for unblocking stormwater pipes.

Blocked Sewer Pipes

As far as home maintenance issues go, there’s few things worse than blocked sewer pipes. Apart from an unsightly mess, foul smells and profound inconvenience, there are also health concerns. As well, there’s genuine potential for collateral damage to building structures and foundations.

More often than not the reason our sewers block is because we flush away things that have no place in a sewer system. Some of the common items that cause blockages might surprise you. Others, many will be aware of. Here’s just a few things that you should NEVER flush down a sewer system.

  • Food
  • Egg shells
  • Grease and oil (cooking oil)
  • Nappies
  • Sanitary products such as tampons
  • “Flushable” baby wipes and standard baby wipes
  • Tissues
  • Cotton Buds, Cotton Pads
  • Hair
  • Dental Floss
  • Cat Litter
  • Condoms

All of the things listed above are not soluble in water or take a very long time to dissolve. Things like hair and dental floss act like string, binding waste together forming impenetrable dams. Food scraps take a long time to dissolve, with things like egg shells clinging to the pipe walls as if glued in place.

Sanitary products such as pads and tampons swell in water, do not dissolve, and quickly become the foundation of major obstructions.

Here’s an example: you have thrown egg shells down the sink for years. Over time they have bonded to the pipe walls. Without drain protectors in your sinks, hair has been washed down the drain for years. It is caught by the eggshells.

Cooking oils have also been washed down the sink. These oils collect on the hair and egg creating a collection point, a bit like fly paper. Now, you have the perfect collection point for all of the larger items such as baby wipes and other sanitary products.

Hydro Jet cleaning is a highly effective method for clearing the most stubborn blockages. It is also the cleanest and most expedient.

A Hydro Jet flush will often avoid the need to use traditional tools such as the mechanical eel, often very messy, and harsh chemicals which can be harmful to the environment. It can also avert the need for excavation or the removal of walls in your home.

As with stormwater pipes, a Hydro Jet service will not only restore the flow, but clean the pipe walls to a degree where the potential for further blockages is significantly reduced. Of course, that’s provided you don’t put unsuitable waste down your drains.

How Is Hydro Jet different from other methods?

As the name suggests, Hydro Jetting uses pressurised water. Interestingly, it’s not that complicated. A hose is inserted to your sewer system, then highly pressurised water is aimed directly at the blockage. In most cases, the blockage is broken up and free to continue its journey into the council sewer network.

When undertaken by a well-trained professional plumber, you will be amazed at how fast and mess-free the results will be.

Before Hydro Jet, the mechanical eel was the primary plumbers tool for removing blockages. The mechanical eel is a long, flexible metal pipe, hooked to a machine. The pie is sent rotating into your sewer system. A small blade on the end attacks the blockage, while the plumber pulls and shoves, increasing agitation to dislodge the blockage.

The mechanical eel remains a very effective tool. However, it can be incredibly messy and smelly and requires an awful clean-up. This is less than desirable when used indoors. In many respects, it can be quite an aggressive process as well.

More often than not, the Hydro Jet system clears all blockages that a mechanical eel can clear. Better still, there’s little if any mess, and the jet action delivers a fantastic clean for the internals of your sewer system that an eel cannot.

Scheduled maintenance is the answer

A stitch in time saves nine, but scheduled maintenance is even better. The trick is to never allow your stormwater and sewage systems to block in the first place.

We understand that regardless of how diligent we are, dubious things will make their way into drain systems. When left unchecked over time, blockages are inevitable.

Scheduled maintenance with a Hydro Jet service ensures a blockage never has a chance to form. With clean pipe walls, foreign objects have nothing to adhere to.

A service will cost, sure. However, a period of scheduled maintenance is nearly always significantly cheaper than the removal of a complex blockage. We all know: out of sight out of mind. By the time we ‘see’ our drains, it’s likely there’s a problem.

Regular maintenance using Hydro Jet makes sense. It will save you money, preserve peak function of your drainage systems, and mitigate the need for expensive and inconvenient repairs.
